Existing since 9500 B.C., tattoos have had both advocates who consider the work pieces of art and detractors who view them as trashy signs of low class.
“Some tattoos I see I think are cheesy,” said Kate Harvey, a junior art history major. “It’s art of the body; it’s subjective.” This subjectivity is reflected in recipients’ various rationales for getting tattoos.
