Johnny Cheung Lee is a badboy. His Wii Remote work was simply awesome; head tracking, creating your own digital whiteboard for next to nothing etc.

He was snapped up by Microsoft - and subsequently it would appear Google - and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he was on the dev team for Kinect.

If these guys have half the talent Lee does Apple should hire them today.

    Check him out: http://johnnylee.net/

What is iLife 07 gonna do that you can't get in 06.

A less bloated iWeb for one and I'm sure there will be other improvements as well. iLife 06 really gave a much needed speed boost to iPhoto, so it's not hard to imagine there will be similar improvements this year.

You guys are clearly missing the point of this... It is not at all the same thing as the silly 3D movies, where you put on special glasses and get to see things jumping out at you...

This is a 2D image that is simulating depth and parallax perspective in real time based on your movements in the world.

What this means is that unlike any of the 3D effects you see in movies, you can actually move your head to the side and look behind things.

This is way more of a "true" 3D effect than what you get in the movies... That's more of a bass-relief... you never get to see anything that isn't already baked into the image.

With this effect, if there's something in your way, you can move to the side and see around it.

    This is really awesome.

    well said, a.phoenicis!

really awesome, the implications of this technology coming to a iOS device is incredible...

don't just think out of the box,
    think.

That's totally nuts! You really have to be stupid and careless to do such a dumb things. It is bad because you are destroying a good for no reason and it is also bad because you are creating some pollution for no reason as well.

I can. The iPod halo doesn't work without going hand in hand with the Apple Stores. If people are buying their iPods from shops that don't stock Macs, their opinions on Macs never change. If they buy an iPod from an Apple Store and see Macs all around doing everything their Windows computer can do and more, they become more open to buying a Mac next time a computer purchase comes round.

Apple need to open more international Stores if they want the worldwide share to increase.

I agree with this statement. It would be interesting to see the percentages in countries that have an Apple Store as opposed to those that don't.

I think another factor could be that a lot of new computers are being bought in China and India which are very cost concious cause the standard of living is still pretty low. I would bet Apple's share in these markets is under 1%.

I'm renting a lot of content through the iTunes Store (Apple TV) with an US account and it works like a charm (I'm from southern Germany). HD content can be watched as advertised almost instantly. So either their US servers have enough bandwidth or there really are servers in Europe.
Apple (as any company of any significant size offering things to download) uses CDNs all over the world which act as sort of regional and local caches. These CDNs are likely to be operated by third-parties.

Who said anything about a Muslim state? Please don't spin the topic.

It's just despicable really. What's more sad is people who go out of their way to justify and defend this, without fully even knowing what it is they're justifying and defending.

A muslim state is what israel would become if all the palestinians were given citizenship, and that simply can't happen, it would be very dangerous. I do know what i'm defending, the right for israel not to become an arab country. You can say the jewish majority there is artificial, but so was the christian population in north america a couple hundred years ago, they also brought boat loads of settlers from around the world, look how that turned out.

I think none the white (plastic) macbook ever supports 8GB of RAM...

The mid 2009 white MacBook has the same chipset as the late 2008 aluminum MacBook. Aside from Apple restricting the mid 2009 white MacBook via intentionally crippling firmware, why wouldn't it be able to support 8 GB RAM?

I thought you weren't doing bigadv right now;) I'll try it with 11 to see what happens.

i wasn't earlier, but when i finally starting getting things working like i wanted, i was able to start back up with bigadv units again. which is why my points are higher now. and i think i might have finally got one of my systems where i want (over 4 ghz). we'll see how long it lasts.

let us know have -smp 11 works

But the damn site is all voluntary, no real authority. People could change something on less looked at articles and nobody'd no the difference! My sister's professors do not allow their students to you Wikipedia! Just because something's longer doesn't mean it's bettter! If you've ever used Encyclopaedia Brittanica or the World Book, the authors are pros on the subject, not just some bum that's obcessed with Google!

Can I point out, because it seems to be constantly missed, that the guy did not say "An independent study said that Wikipedia articles are longer and therefore more accurate." He said that an independent study said Wikipedia articles are generally as accurate as the EB.

And, seperately, Wikipedia articles tend to be longer (that is, more in depth and informative) than EB articles.

I can recall this coming up and the Encyclopedia Britannica actually being actively dishonest and misleading in their attempts to debunk the study.

Wikipedia's accuracy is not a question of article length and NOBODY is suggesting it is. Wikipedia is generally an extremely accurate body of work. Given this, and given the fact it covers a more diverse range of subjects, in more depth, than the EB, it is a more useful work.

Oh, and to answer the criticism that you think this doesn't make sense: Wikipedia is:

    - Continually peer reviewed.
    - Comprised of contributions usually written by experts in their field
    - Constantly monitored by people looking for incorrect modifications to pages they've added.

Additionally, if you're just looking for a starting place, Wikipedians are usually very good at citing sources.

By comparison, the EB has some degree of editorial control, but can't very well get experts together for every little subject that comes up. It's not surprising the EB contains mistakes.

You can't rely on either as a definitive source, but objectively Wikipedia is a more useful starting point than the EB, and it's certainly fair to point someone its direction if you believe the article to be largely accurate and if it contains links that'll allow a reader to research further.

Oh stop whinning. You know deep down there were way to many people using the discount when they should not have been. The policy just falls back on what they previously did years ago with the discount. Dang, it wasn't long ago that you had to have it shipped to the school. Come on, look at what some university bookstores are doing now before you can buy Apple software at discount.

I don't blame them. It makes it tougher for those whom need the hardware but this has gone on long enough. It's three hundred flippin' USD, and you get enough upgrades for that. Suck it up and work a few hours of overtime for a couple weeks.

Good for you Apple! There is no need to explain.

The use of the balaclava in sectarian violence has contributed a lot to this mistrust of covering your face.

My fiance is protestant, went to a Catholic High School and now teaches in both a Catholic High School and an Islamic k-12 school. When she works in the Islamic school, she wears a scarf covering her head, not out of pressure but for respect for their culture. She also lets her students know that she is Christian, but wants to show them that you should respect other people's culture. Compared with one of her colleagues who brings in Bacon sandwiches and doesn't really care, I think it's a nice outlook to have.

The thing with a beard is that whilst it hides some features, it doesn't hide other features such as your face shape, nose, brow and forehead. I don't like talking in person to people in sunglasses or with their face obstructed, maybe this is a western habit bred into me, but I just don't feel as much trust for the person as I would if I could see their face and eyes.

I don't really like the law being enforced, it should be a choice, but by the same token, it should perhaps be more like the rules in petrol stations and banks with crash helmets, you need to take them off before being served. I don't know what would be right though.
